CFSG is pleased to see that there is growing interest in taking action to stop the importation of puppies into the country from members of the public and key stakeholders. In 2014 CFSG saw the evidence collated in the Dogs Trust investigation into imports and consequently wrote to the Minister at DEFRA suggesting that the age of puppies being transported in should be raised to 6 months. Since then we have also presented the same view at two Animal Health & Welfare Board England meetings and have more recently written to the Minister again outlining why a six month age restriction is better for the health and welfare of puppies as well as easier to enforce.
